How the estimate works
Stitches = design area × share covered × stitches per mm², adjusted for density.
Fill areas: about 1.1 per mm²
Tatami fill at 0.4 mm rows with 3.5 mm stitches, plus underlay, edge walks and overlap between colors.
Satin: about 2.4 per mm²
Lettering and borders: a stitch every 0.2 mm along the column, plus edge-run underlay.
Density
Wider row spacing means fewer stitches. 0.45 mm is common on knits, 0.5 mm on leather.
Quoting by stitch count
- Price per 1,000 stitches covers machine time; add a minimum per piece so small designs stay worthwhile.
- Every color change on a single-needle machine is a manual thread change. Count it in your time.
- Large orders run on multi-needle machines at higher speed, so per-piece time drops sharply.
- Digitizing is free here, so there's no setup fee to pass on for designs you digitize yourself.
Questions
The quickest way to see what it does with your artwork is to try it. It's free and takes about a minute.
How many stitches is a left chest logo?
A typical 3.5 × 2.5 in (90 × 65 mm) left chest logo with about half its area stitched comes to roughly 4,000 to 6,000 stitches with this digitizer's density. Dense, fully filled designs can be twice that.
How do I get an exact stitch count?
Upload the artwork to the free digitizer. It digitizes the design and reports the exact stitch count, trims, colors and sew time before you download.
How is embroidery usually priced?
Many shops charge per 1,000 stitches, with a minimum per piece and lower rates for larger quantities. Rates vary a lot by region and shop, so enter your own.
Why do satin areas add more stitches?
Satin stitches sit about 0.4 mm apart along the column regardless of width, so narrow lettering and borders use more stitches per square millimeter than tatami fill.
