Tips

Choosing lettering that sews well

  • Pick bold, even strokes for small text: Block, Sport and Rounded stay crisp on caps and left chest logos.
  • Save scripts for larger sizes. Thin joins and hairlines disappear under about 10 mm.
  • Avoid very condensed fonts on towels and fleece: the pile swallows narrow counters. Add a water-soluble topping.
  • Use one font, or two that contrast clearly, such as a script name over a block tagline.
  • Check the stitch count: heavier fonts take longer to sew and feel stiffer on thin fabric.

FAQ

Questions

The quickest way to see what it does with your artwork is to try it. With a free account, digitizing and previewing cost nothing and take about a minute.

Which font is best for embroidery?

Bold fonts with even strokes stitch best. Block, Sport and Rounded stay readable from about 5 mm letter height, which suits shirts, caps and workwear. Scripts like Script, Retro, Brush and Flowing look great on gifts and towels but need 10–12 mm or more so the joins stay clean.

Can I download these fonts for my embroidery software?

These aren't font files for embroidery software. Pick a font here and open it in the text tool, which turns your lettering into a ready-to-sew file in PES, DST, JEF, EXP, VP3, XXX and more.

Why do the stitch counts differ between fonts?

Every preview is digitized at the same 25 mm height, so wider, heavier letters cover more fabric and need more stitches. Condensed fonts like Tall and Sport use fewer stitches for the same word, which also means a shorter sew time.

What is the smallest text a machine can embroider?

About 5 mm (0.2 in) capital-letter height for bold sans fonts, and more for serifs and scripts. Each font card shows its practical minimum.

Is the previewer free?

Yes. Previewing fonts is free and runs in your browser. To download the lettering as an embroidery file, open it in the text tool; downloads are included in every plan.
