What is appliqué in embroidery?

A technique where a piece of fabric is stitched onto the base fabric to cover a large area, instead of filling it with thousands of stitches.

Designs and digitizing

Appliqué, explained

An appliqué file usually runs in steps: a placement line showing where the fabric goes, a tack-down stitch to hold it, a stop (usually coded as a color change) while you trim the excess, then a satin or bean border that covers the raw edge. It cuts the stitch count of large shapes such as varsity letters and keeps them soft. Embrizo doesn't create appliqué sequences; it's a specialist technique, usually done by hand in desktop software or by a professional digitizer.
