What is running stitch in embroidery?

A single line of stitches from point to point, used for fine details, outlines and travel between areas.

Stitches

Running stitch, explained

Running stitches are typically around 2–2.5 mm long; shorter ones follow tight curves better. They also run hidden under later stitching to move between shapes without a trim. Embrizo uses running stitch, 2 mm long by default, for lines thinner than about 0.75 mm.
