What is stitch angle in embroidery?

The direction stitches run within a shape, which changes how the thread catches the light and which way the fabric is pulled.

Stitch angle, explained

Satin stitches run across a column and should turn with curves, as in the letter S. Fill angles are often varied between neighboring areas so they stand apart even in the same color, and since stitches pull the fabric along their direction, the angle also decides which way a shape shrinks. Embrizo turns satin with each shape's centerline and picks fill angles automatically.
