Machines and thread
Polyester thread, explained
Polyester embroidery thread is most often sold as 40 wt, the weight most designs are digitized for, and modern versions have a sheen close to rayon at arm's length. Many shops use it for nearly everything that will be washed often, such as uniforms, towels and baby clothes. It feels slightly firmer than rayon, so some embroiderers still choose rayon for soft decorative pieces; the thread guide compares the two.
